Dear Zoo Friends:
Our annual Halloween children's event, BOO at the ZOO, is approaching quickly. We would like to extend the opportunity for your group to partner with us this year for this unique volunteer experience.
BOO at the ZOO is an annual family event for pre-school and elementary age children that raises funds for the zoo's support organization, Friends of Columbian Park Zoo. Recent projects that the Friends have completed include the new Entrance Canopy and the EdZOOcation classroom. Their most current project, a Galapagos tortoise exhibit, is currently under construction.
This year's event will be held on October 28, 29 and 30 during the evenings. We are in need of volunteers from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m.-10:00 p.m. each night of the event to assist with face painting, selling concessions, giving candy to children, manning game stations, acting out fairytale "scenes" along the train ride, and many other activities. Volunteers are also needed to help with decorating each day October 19-October 26 from 1-4 pm. Additional volunteers will be needed for the tear-down and clean up of this event on Saturday, October 31 and Sunday, November 1 from 10 am -1:00 pm. Snacks and refreshments will be provided for volunteers.
Volunteers are welcome to dress in costumes for this event during event nights. The zoo will have some costumes available for volunteers to wear. Weapons, bloody or gory costumes and/or accessories will not be permitted. The Columbian Park Zoo/Lafayette Parks Department has a zero tolerance for drugs and alcohol and reserves the right to expel individuals that fail to adhere to this policy.
Approximately 700 volunteers are needed to make this event a continued success. Groups that are interested in more information about volunteering can contact me at 807-1541 or via e-mail: claufman@lafayette.in.gov. Deadline for volunteer registration is Friday, October 9, 2009.
Thank you for your interest in this "spooktacular" event and we look forward to your participation.
Sincerely,
Claudine Laufman
Zoo Director
