Texas A&M University's College of Veterinary Medicine & Biomedical Sciences Merit Graduate Scholar Fellowship

The College of Veterinary Medicine & Biomedical Sciences (CVM) at Texas A&M University is offering a Merit Graduate Scholar Fellowship for highly qualified students interested in pursuing a Ph.D. in any of the following disciplines: Biomedical Genomics, Neuroscience, Cardiovascular Sciences, Infectious Diseases and Biodefense, Toxicology, Oncology, Environmental Health Sciences, and Veterinary Clinical Research.

Successful applicants will join a nationally competitive, multidisciplinary graduate program with over 150 students engaged in cutting-edge research. The CVM seeks to expand these programs by offering this fellowship, which includes an extremely competitive graduate stipend of $36,000 annually for high quality students interested in pursuing careers in basic or applied research. Students are required to have a 3.2 GPA or equivalent and a score of at least 1200 on the GRE examination. Applicants with documented research experience, such as an undergraduate or Masters' thesis, presentations, and/or publications, are strongly encouraged to apply.

5. BOAH Food Scientist - Dairy Division

The Indiana State Board of Animal Health (BOAH) is now accepting applications for the Food Scientist 3 position within the BOAH Dairy Division. The incumbent will be responsible for dairy farm and dairy processing plant inspections in northeastern Indiana. Most of the work will be conducted in the Fort Wayne, Ind. area.

Since this position is located outside of the BOAH main office, the incumbent would receive a state vehicle and computer.

Position: Feed Mill Operator/Management Trainee – Full-time

We are a specialized feed manufacturer. Our 58,000 sq ft plant manufacturer's texturized, pelleted, and mineral/premix feeds. We are located just north of West Lafayette in Brookston, Indiana. 2010 is Hunter Nutrition's 20th year in business.

Qualified individuals will have earned their BS degree, have farming and/or agri-business experience, a good attitude, excellent work ethic, and good attention to detail. Mechanical abilities and an interest in machinery are also necessary.

The job description is a employee who is responsible for manufacturing feed, quality control, shipping & receiving, inventory control, customer service, and equipment/plant maintenance. Duties essential to the job include; being a quick learner, accuracy, having good attention to detail, lifting 50# bags of feed through-out the day, being able to climb heights up to 120 ft. when needed, and being mechanically inclined.

Daily work consists of operating machinery, lifting 50 pound bags, shipping & receiving, being responsible for feed production and completion of daily work list, running a forklift, using grain legs, augers, pellet mills, mixers, and conveyors. Extensive use of feed manufacturing equipment is a part of the daily work as is quality control.

We are looking for a dedicated individual who is concerned about our business and the quality of the products it manufactures. We offer good working hours of day shift (7am to 5:30 pm) Monday thru Friday; off most weekends and holidays. However attendance during the workweek is critical in order for us to allow employees to work these hours; having their evenings and weekends free.

The selected candidate will start work as a trainee for the first 90 days. They will be moved to 'permanent' status after the training and 90 day probationary period are completed. Production rates and quality control must meet company standards in order for probationary employees to be moved to permanent status. Hunter Nutrition is a tobacco free workplace.

Compensation: Compensation is $ 13.00 to $ 16.00 per hour (dependant upon experience level); plus benefits; with weekly overtime. Annual expected corresponding earnings are $ 37,180.00, $ 40,560.00, $ 42,900.00, and $ 45,760.00.

8. Ag Printers Marketing Research Internship

Job Responsibilities
Responsibilities may include project management, questionnaire development, data analysis, graphic presentation, report writing/preparation, and synthesis of research data for marketing strategies. Additional opportunities include in-depth interviewing and/or focus group moderating. The Market Research Intern will be researching and advising on the use of social media in the marketplace. Weekly reports on progress will also be mandatory.

Candidates should already have had some exposure to marketing and market research, either academically or through work experience. Those with agricultural communications and/or sales and marketing backgrounds are encouraged to apply.

9. Farbest Farms Summer Internship Program

As an intern you will be exposed to several different aspects of turkey production in Southern Indiana. Your experience will leave you with a general understanding of what a career in Flock Supervision would entail. Our program promotes the professional development of our intern while providing training for future employees.

A 12 week Program

During your twelve week program you will:
Spend a week inside Farbest Foods our turkey processing plant. Here you will gain an understanding of Food Safety, Processing Production, Sales and Marketing and of Live Loading.

Spend a week at JFS, Inc our feed mill. Here you will be exposed to feed ingredient receiving, milling and manufacturing, quality control, and feed distribution.

Spend a week at one of brooder hub facilities. While you are there you will participate in brooding preparations and poult placement.

Spend a week working with our staff veterinarian and the Purdue Diagnostic Lab in Dubois Indiana. Here you should gain an understanding of disease diagnosis and prevention.

The remainder of your time will be spent working on a special project or projects and accompanying the flock supervisors in their daily responsibilities.

The intern will be responsible for keeping a daily personal journal of their experiences and present this along with their findings and recommendations from their special projects to flock supervisors and mangers at an exit meeting.

This is a paid salary internship but benefits are not included. Living expenses are the responsibility of the intern. Interns must provide proof of their eligibility to work in the US and pass a drug screen, driving record screen and background check.

10. CCO Inside Track

I. The attached flyer is for the GRE and graduate/professional school forum on Thursday April 7, from 4:30-5:30 at UNIV 103. Students who attend this event will hear discussions on choosing the right program for themselves, selecting the right school, and strategies for the dreaded GRE's.

II. The Interview Workshop will prepare you for every part of the interview process. Bring your questions and be prepared to learn a lot in this fun, interactive session. It will be held on Tuesday, April 12th from 4:30PM - 5:30PM in UNIV 101.

III. Operation: Hire a Hoosier Vet will be on Wednesday, April 13th, from 10:00AM - 3:00PM in Indianapolis, IN. Over 100 employers will be there looking for qualified applicants to fill their open positions.
