The Department of Animal Science at South Dakota State University invites applications to fill a nine-month, tenure track faculty position (75% Extension and 25% Research).

RESPONSIBILITIES: Develop a dynamic Extension program and a complementary research program in beef nutrition and feedlot management. The successful candidate will provide educational leadership to a growing beef feedlot industry in South Dakota. This individual will provide leadership for the transfer of information and technologies to Extension Field Specialists, South Dakota beef backgrounders and feedlot operators. This faculty member will work cooperatively with other Extension Specialists to develop effective, interdisciplinary training and clientele programs. The incumbent will be expected to utilize a variety of delivery techniques including: the iGrow web portal, distance educational technologies, traditional meetings, individual consultations, and intensive short courses. This individual's research program should focus on beef feedlot nutrition and management systems. Successful grantsmanship and participation in multidisciplinary and multi-state activities is expected. The successful applicant will recruit and train quality graduate students.

QUALIFICATIONS: Ph.D. in Animal Science (or closely related field) successfully completed by the appointment date with an emphasis in beef feedlot nutrition and management. An in-depth knowledge of the beef feedlot industry and experience in feedlot management are also required. The successful candidate must be able to interact effectively with beef producers, colleagues, staff, students and other clientele. The incumbent must be able to communicate (both verbally and in writing) effectively and have demonstrated research abilities. Experience in delivering educational programs via the Internet and other distance education technology is desired.
