2. 2013 International Livestock Congress USA - Travel Fellowship

The International Livestock Congress USA, managed by the International Stockmen's Educational Foundation in cooperation with the National Western Stock Show™, will be held January 12-16, 2013 in Denver, Colorado. Events will include a student career workshop, the International Livestock Congress USA, the National Western Stock Show and tours of area plants, feedlots and ranches.

The International Stockmen's Educational Foundation awards travel fellowships to senior level undergraduate students and graduate students attending accredited colleges or universities. Fellowships include airfare, ground transportation, congress registration, hotel and scheduled meals. Scholastic achievement, leadership experiences and professional references are all part of the stringent qualifying requirements for this fellowship.

The application and supporting materials, which are due October 1, 2012, is available online at http://www.theisef.com/studentprogram1.aspx. TRAVEL FELLOWSHIP GUIDELINES
INTERNATIONAL STOCKMEN'S EDUCATIONAL FOUNDATION

In an effort to enhance the educational experiences of college students and strengthen the leaders of tomorrow's livestock and meat industry, the International Stockmen's Educational Foundation awards travel fellowships each year for the International Livestock Congress to senior level undergraduates and graduate students attending accredited colleges or universities.

The International Livestock Congress USA, managed through a partnership of the ISEF and the National Western Stock Show, is a unique global event that brings leaders from the livestock and meat industry together to discuss issues of international importance that affect the future of animal agriculture. Students will participate in the event January 12-16, 2013 in Denver, Colorado. Events will include a student career workshop, the International Livestock Congress USA, and tours of area plants, feedlots and ranches.

Fellowships include airfare, ground transportation, hotel and scheduled meals. Scholastic achievement, leadership experiences and professional references are all part of the stringent qualifying requirements for this fellowship.

APPLICATION PROCESS:

The application process will be through an online submission process this year. Please read the instructions carefully!

Helpful Hints regarding the online submission process:

APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS:

1) All applications must be completed and submitted online.

2) One head and shoulders photograph must be uploaded and submitted online. Photo must be high quality and suitable for publishing.

3) Three Professional Reference Forms must be completed and submitted online by three persons you select to serve as a reference for you. Please direct them to the correct link for online submission. One reference must be from your immediate academic advisor.

4) You must provide a college transcript for each degree that you have received and for the degree you are currently pursuing. College transcripts may be unofficial at the time of application submission; however, the top twelve students selected will be requested to submit an official transcript before being confirmed as a recipient. Transcripts can be submitted in one of two ways:

5) Once your application and supporting materials are received, an email will be sent to your Department Head asking them to approve your submitted application. Please notify your Department Head that you are applying for this fellowship and make them aware that they will need to approve your application via email response.

Full Time Positions


1. Alltech Inc. - Laboratory Technician in Animal Nutrigenomics

Alltech Inc. is an international leader in the animal health and nutrition industry. Alltech is currently seeking applicants for a full time laboratory technician position to work in the area of animal nutrigenomics in our Center for Animal Nutrigenomics and Applied Animal Nutrition in Nicholasville, KY. The laboratory technician will be expected to execute daily tasks associated with molecular biology and animal nutrition research. Research experience in the area of RNA isolation, DNA microarrays, real-time PCR and other molecular techniques is required. Candidates should have strong communication skills (written and oral) and be capable of working both independently and as part of a team with minimal supervision.

Candidates must have a minimum of a B.S. in biology, animal science or other science related field. While not required, experience with large agricultural animals (horses, cattle, and swine) or willingness to work with these species is preferred.

This is a full- time position. Most work will occur during typical business hours Monday through Friday, but there will be occasional activities outside of typical business hours. The compensation package includes a competitive salary, health insurance, paid vacation time, 401(K) retirement account and medical and dependent care flexible spending accounts. This position is available immediately but start date is negotiable.

1. We are conducting a study with Ossabaw pigs and we need help during the following times. If you are available and are interested in helping us any of the times listed please call or e-mail Berdine Martin at 494-6559 or bmartin1@purdue.edu

Monday 7-12 : feeding pigs and weighing food
Tuesday 7-10a: Sling pigs ( i.e. put them in a hammock), take blood pressure, feed pigs
Wednesday 7-10a, 5-7p : Sling pigs and take blood pressure
Thursday 7-10a: Feed and weigh pigs
Friday 7-10a , 5-7p: Sling pigs and take blood pressure

2. We are also doing a study with over 100 rats which is quite labor intensive so we need help at the following times. If you are interested and available at any of the these times please call or e-mail Berdine Martin at 494-6559 or bmartin1@purdue.edu

Most days, 9-12: urine collection, feeding, and weighing animals
Most days, after 1 pm: lab analysis
Weekends, Saturday and Sunday, 8-12N: blood draws, blood processing.
