1. Zoo Education Internships

Columbian Park Zoo is looking for energetic students to assist the Education Department with camps and classes throughout the year. Interns will gain practical experience in lesson planning, office management, interpretation, and interactive animal presentations. This is a FUN internship experience!

When: Internships are available in the spring, summer, and fall of every year

Requirements:

• 12 week minimum commitment
• 15 hours/ week per semester; 20 hours/ week in the summer
• Minimum GPA: 2.5
• Ability to work in a team setting
• Strong communication skills
• Dependability and enthusiasm
• No animal experience necessary

2. Wyoming Summer Ranch Hand Position

Team player in hay farming, fence repair and building, hay irrigation with pivots, gated pipe, and wheel line is needed at a horse and cattle operation on an upscale Guest Ranch. This is a great experience, but please do not apply if you only want to cowboy!

Duration: Seasonal job to end of October, housing provided in bunkhouse, but not meals, a NO TOBACCO RANCH.

Reuirements: Experience in these areas is a must, especially with hay farming.

Hours: 5 1/2 days per week

3. Indiana Horse Racing Commission Summer Internships

The Indiana Horse Racing Commission is offering two Summer Internships positions!

Requirements:

• Must be 21 or older
• Be able to communicate with all entities (Race Secretaries, Judges/Stewards, Veterinarians, and most of all Horsemen)
• Work independently and travel extensively
• Be prompt, reliable, and have a strong commitment to the dates required

Duties:

• Assistance in administering the Indiana Sired Fair Circuit Drug Testing Program at Indiana's County and State Fairs
• Obtain and maintain an adequate number of drug testing supplies from the Indiana Horse Racing Commission Veterinarian at Indiana Downs
• Assist veterinarians with paperwork and collection of drug testing samples at sites
• Maintain custody of drug testing samples until delivery to the veterinarian
• Obtain payment invoices from each veterinarian
• Assist with the Indiana Sired Fair Circuit Racing Program at County and State Fairs
• Collect and transport saddle pads used for races to and from each host site
• Maintain point standings for horses competing in the program
• Assist with additional projects as assigned by the Director of Racing and Breed Development

4. Junior Scholars Summer Research Program

This is a summer reseach opportunity in the Animal Sciences Department for undergraduate and high school students considering a career in research (you get paid!). Each undergraduate student will be paired with a graduate student mentor to assist in a research project. Opportunites are broad (basic to applied… nutrition to behavior).
