2. Big Ten+ Graduate School Exposition

Registration is now open for the Big Ten+ Graduate School Expo October 20-21, 2013. Students will get an inside look at graduate school and the application process, receive advice about funding opportunities, network with representatives from more than 50 of the nation's top graduate institutions, and attend a premier graduate school fair. This 2-day mini-conference is especially designed for students interested in graduate education in Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, and other science-related disciplines.

The Big Ten+ Graduate School Expo awarded more than $30,000 in travel scholarships last year. All students, including women and members of underrepresented groups, are encouraged to attend.

1. National Cattlemen's Beef Association Public Policy Internships

The National Cattlemen's Beef Assocation's government affairs office in Washington, DC, is accepting applications for spring and summer 2014 public policy internships. NCBA is looking for college students with an interest in the beef industry, public policy, and communications. The internship is designed to work closely with the lobbying team on Capitol Hill and assist with NCBA's regulatory efforts.

Responsibilities: This isn't a 'check-the-box' style of internship. NCBA's public policy interns work alongside NCBA staff on critical issue ranging from agriculture policy to trade, the environment, and more.

Internship Duration: January 6, 2014 - May 9, 2014 or May 19, 2014 - August 22, 2014

2. KEMI Internship Opportunities

 The Kentucky Equine Management Internship (KEMI) program is now accepting applications for their Spring 2014 and Fall 2014 internship programs. During the 22 week internships, interns live and work on Central Kentucky Thoroughbred horse farms.

Benefits: Housing and an hourly stipend are provided

Spring Session (January 13, 2014 - June 13, 2014): Interns learn about equine reproduction by working with broodmares and foals. These interns also attend weekly seminars and also are provided with networking opportunities.

Fall Session (July 13, 2014 - December 12, 2014): Interns work with sales weanlings, yearlings, and broodmares and some interns with exceptional riding skills will assist in the breaking and early training of yearlings. In addition to the hands-on work with the horses, the interns attend weekly eduational seminars and are given multiple opportunities to network with industry professionals.

This is a 3 credit field course from December 29, 2013- January 14, 2014. Have the opportunity to study, snorkel, and scuba dive along the Caribbean coast of Mexico, gain valuable career skills in hands-on ecosystem field research, and have the opportunity to apply your classroom and textbook learning while immersed in an incredible Caribbean ecosystem setting! Leadership Development


1. Learning from Leaders Presentation

The subject of this presentation is Ethics, Values, and Science - Finding Balance to Build Trust in Our Food System.Charlie Arnot, founder and president of CMA and CEO for the Center for Food Integrity will be giving this presentation on Wendesday, October 9, 2013 at 6 PM in Pfendler Hall (Dean's Auditorium). Dinner will be availabe at 5 PM. This program is part of the Leadership Development Certificate Program, but all students are welcome.

2. Uncommon Leadership Seminar with Coach Hazell

Purdue Head Football Coach Darrell Hazell will address uncommon leadership, pillars to succeed as a student and employee, the importance of teamwork and communication, and integrity and preseverance- how character counts during this seminar. Door prizes, autographed footballs, and refreshments will be provided. Ride the Boilermaker Special if you come early (9-10 AM)!

1. Kelsay Farms Fall Opening

Opening Day at Kelsay Farms is Saturday, September 28th! Visit Kelsay Farms for a day of fun with tours of their dairy milking parlor, feestall barn, calves, and farm equipment. Other activities include a 6-acre corn maze, baby barnyard, bale mountain, corn crib play area, the Moo Choo Express, pumpkins, hayrides, dailry children's activities, live music, and free face painting along with delicious dairy snacks.
