3. Purdue ANSC Diversity Graduate Research Assistantship

The Department of Animal Sciences Diversity Research Assistantship supports the recruitment of outstanding MS/PhD-track students who will enhance the diversity of the graduate student body in graduate programs at Purdue through their diverse backgrounds, views, and experiences. Each assistantship provides either a 2-year (for MS) or 4-year (for PhD) package. Tuition, stipend, and medical insurance is supplemented, and the students will be admitted beginning the Fall 2014 or Spring 2015 semester.

To apply: graduate students must submit completed Graduate School admission application materials, including a diversity essay by December 15th. The diversity essay should be 500 words or less responding to the statement:

4. Purdue ANSC Grand Challenge Graduate Assistantship in Animal Efficiency

The Animal Sciences Grand Challenge Graduate Assistantship in Animal Efficiency supports the recruitment of an outstanding PhD-track student who will enhance internal and external communication efforts in Animal Efficiency in the Department of Animal Sciences. The Grand Challenge graduate assistantship provides a 2-year award for PhD students package (tuition, stipend, and medical insurance supplement) to the student with an admit date of Fall 2014, after which time the student will continue with an addition 2 years of support as a graduate research assistant.

Description: The role of the Grand Challenge Assistantship is to broaden internal and external awareness of Animal Sciences research in Animal Efficiency through coordination of activities that facilitates internal and external communication. These activities could include: press releases, fact sheets, inter-lab gatherings, symposia highlighting research areas for stakeholders, graduate student career tours, and/or communication with stakeholders. The goal of this targeted assistantship is to facilitate insight into departmental efforts in the Animal Efficiency Grand Challenge area.

To Apply: Graduate students must completed Graduate School admission application materials, including an essay outlining your vision for Animal Sciences in Animal Efficiency by December 15, 2013. The Grand Challenge essay in Animal Efficiency should be 1 page describing the proposed research area they would accomplish at Purdue and how this research furthers progress in the Animal Efficiency Grand Challenge area.

Requirements:

Awards: The department will provide a stipend of $18,763 during the first two years along with payment of tuition and most feeds (differential fee is not paid) along with medical insurance supplement; the additional 2-year research assistantship will be matched by faculty in the Animal Efficiency area.
