Bomb Calorimetry - Home Page
Bomb Calorimetry is used to determine energy values.
- The feed or feces sample is formed into a pellet and placed in the bomb.
- The pellet is in contact with the wire connecting to an outside electrical source.
- The bomb is charged with many atmospheres if oxygen.
- The bomb sits in exactly 1000 g of water, which will collect the heat produced.
- An initial thermometer reading is recorded.
- The bomb is set off, burning the sample, heating the water.
- A final thermometer reading is taken, and the calories produced can be calculated.
