Realistic Production Levels

The production can be use to:

NPD = 365-[L/S/Y x (GL+LL)]
NPD = Non Productive Sow Days
L/S/Y = Litters per sow per year
GL = Gestation Length
LL = Lactation Length

Projected L/S/Y
365-NPD
(GL + LL)

NPD = all days that the gilts and sows are not gestating (pregnant) or lactating
Farrowing Interval = 365/L/S/Y

Assume 100% conception rate, ideal conditions no death loss, abortions, culling after breeding.
Day 5 to rebreed are NPD.  Lactation length increased farrowing interval and decrease litters/sow/yield.  Lactation length does not affect NPD.  In this case NPD=L/S/Y x rebreeding.

Service Management

A principal aspect affecting Litter/Sow/Year is 'service' management. Table 1 highlights how the top performing farms tend to:

These are key areas you need to review in your operation to assess any opportunity for improvement.
