A mouse nest traps heat
Using thermographic imaging, radio telemetry, and behavioral techniques,
current work in Dr. Garner's lab is investigating the relationships between
mouse nestbuilding behavior, the thermal properties of nests, mouse
thermoregulation, variability in scientific outcomes, and mouse well-being.

Whiskers and fur plucked from a 'barbered' mouse
Trichotillomania (compulsive hair pulling)
is one of the most common human disorders, affecting between 3 and 4% of women.
However comparatively little is known about the disorder. Abnormal plucking
behaviors are also extremely common abnormal behaviors in many species. Dr.
Garner’s lab has been using ‘barbering’ (whisker and fur plucking) in mice as a
model of trichotillomania. This is the only animal work currently adressing this
important disorder. Read more here.
