76th IBEP BULL SALE SUMMARY

A nice crowd was on hand at the Springville Feeder Auction on Saturday, October 17 for the 76th IBEP Bull Sale held in conjunction with the Springville Feeder Auction Association's Heifer and Cow Sale. About 115 buyers from Indiana, Kentucky, Illinois, Iowa, Ohio, and Wisconsin registered for the combined sale.

The sale average was $2,958, which is low compared to recent IBEP sales. Auctioneer Mike Berger, Bremen, IN topped the sale with the first bull in the ring.

Angus bull #152 topped the sale at $7,200. Bull #152 was consigned by Powell Farms, Worthington, IN and sired by PA Power Tool 9108. His Performance Index was 112.3, with a Carcass Merit Index of 126.7, which was the highest in the sale. His EPDs were in the top 10% of the breed for Weaning Weight, Yearling Weight, Maternal Milk, Direct Calving Ease, Carcass Weight, Marbling, Ribeye Area, and three $ Indexes.

There were several other high-selling bulls. Angus #221 from The Raven, Paris, IL sold for $5,750. He was sired by Hoover Dam. SimAngus #235 from Saxe Farm, Thompsonville, IL sold for $5,100. He was sired by GCCR Easy Answer Y108.

The next five high-selling bulls were Angus consigned by Kiata Farms, Hamilton, OH. Bull #192 sold for $4,500 and was sired by Connealy Confidence 0100. Bulls #197 and 198 each sold for $4,100 and #195 sold for $3,900; all three were sired by Deer Valley All In. Bull #190 sold for #3,600 and was sired by GAR Composure.

Of the 42 bulls offered, 38 sold for an average of $2,958. Bulls were purchased by 28 individuals from two states; 32 bulls were sold to Indiana buyers, and six to Kentucky.

On the tables below, note high-selling bulls of each breed and their consignor. Also, the number sold, average, and top for 52 auctions held at Springville, and the number sold and averages for each breed.

The 2015 Winter Performance Test will begin with delivery on Tuesday, October 27. Seedstock producers from Indiana, Illinois, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio, and Wisconsin have entered bulls. Breeds represented include Angus, Charolais, Gelbvieh, Hereford, Lim-Flex, Red Angus, SimAngus, and Simmental. The 77th IBEP Bull Sale will be held on Thursday, April 14, 2016 at 6:00 pm at the Springville Feeder Auction.
