79th IBEP BULL SALE SUMMARY
High Average Price for IBEP

A nice crowd was on hand at the Springville Feeder Auction on Thursday, April 20 for the 79th IBEP Bull Sale. Over 110 buyers from several states registered to bid on 90 top quality bulls representing six breeds. In addition, the sale was broadcast live via the internet by DVAuction Services. Two remote sites in Indiana viewed the sale, plus additional viewers throughout the U.S.

Bulls were in high demand and bidding was brisk. The sale average was $3,128, which is the sixth highest sale average for IBEP, and all but five bulls sold. Auctioneer Mike Berger, Bremen, IN topped the sale with the 4th bull in the ring.

Angus bull #35 topped the sale at $6,750. Bull #35 was consigned by Rolling Acres Angus, Freetown, IN and sired by SS Niagara Z29. His Performance Index was 120.4, with a Carcass Merit Index of 90.7. His EPDs were in the top 10% of the Angus breed for birth weight, weaning weight, yearling weight, direct and maternal calving ease, and $ Weaning Index.

There were several other high-selling bulls. Angus #118 sold for $6,500. He was consigned by Kiata Farms, Hamilton, OH and sired by Connealy Confidence 0100.

Angus #139 sold for $5,400. He was consigned by KB Angus, Merritt, MI and sired by AAR Ten X 7008 SA.

Three bulls sold for $4,700. Angus #191 was consigned by Underwood Angus Farms, North Manchester, IN and sired by SS Niagara Z29. SimAngus #213 was consigned by Kohli Farms, Circleville, OH and sired by Deer Valley All In. Simmental #14 was consigned by Bill Washburn, Olney, IL and sired by LLSF Pays to Believe ZU194.

Two bulls sold for $4,600. Angus #60 was consigned by Infinity Cattle Company, Ferdinand, IN and sired by Connealy Comrade 1385. Angus #100 was consigned by Brown Family Farms / Drew, Rockville, IN and sired by EXAR Lutton 1831.

Two bulls sold for $4,500. Angus #54 was consigned by Stewart Select Angus, Greensburg, IN and sired by Mohnen Substantial 272. Angus #195 was consigned by Snider-Clayton Farm, Goshen, IN and sired by SS Niagara Z29.

Angus #150 sold for $4,400. He was consigned by Cooper Angus, Tippecanoe, IN and sired by RB Tour of Duty 177.

Angus #50 sold for $4,200. He was consigned by Stewart Select Angus and sired by SS Warrior Z20.

Angus #10 sold for $4,100. He was consigned by Bill Washburn and sired by RB Tour of Duty 177.

Three bulls sold for $4,000. Angus #52 was consigned by Stewart Select Angus and sired by SS Warrior Z20. Angus #64 was consigned by Willer Timber Ridge, Greencastle, IN and sired by WTR 9403 Right Answer 305. SimAngus #212 was consigned by Kohli Farms and sired by GAR Prophet.

Of the 90 bulls offered, 85 sold for an average of $3,128. Six went to buyers at the remote sites, and four to other internet buyers. Bulls were purchased by 66 individuals from five states; 75 bulls were sold to Indiana buyers, four to Ohio, three to Kentucky, two to Michigan, and one to Nebraska.

On the tables below, note high-selling bulls of each breed and their consignor. Also, the number sold, average, and top for 55 auctions held at Springville, and the number sold and averages for each breed.

The 2017 Summer Performance Test begins with delivery on Tuesday, May 2. The 80th IBEP Bull Sale will be held on Saturday afternoon, October 21, 2017 at the Springville Feeder Auction. The sale will be held in conjunction with the Springville Feeder Auction Association's Cow and Heifer Sale. Cows will begin selling at 2:00 pm, and bulls will sell immediately following.
