IRM Philosophy

T he IRM philosophy: To enhance profitability, raise beef in a consumer-friendly manner with sound environmental and food-safety practices and formulate and follow a business plan to control costs.

"When I look at things now, I first look at how the ranch, and management practices on the ranch, fit the big picture," said Jim McAdams, manager of Spade Ranches in Texas and New Mexico. "Before my involvement with IRM, I believe that I did things just the opposite way. I looked at problems with my ranch, then tried to solve them. The last thing that I ever thought about was whether they fit the needs of consumers or advocates. Many of the things I implemented did help my immediate problem but they also created bigger problems. The best example is how we, individually and as an industry, sacrificed quality for growth. In turn, the demand for our product dropped drastically, leaving us worse off than before."

Are you raising cattle that will satisfy the ultimate consumers? Their concerns now extend beyond quality, price, and "How do I cook this?" to strong concerns about food safety and ongoing concerns about environmental issues.
