About the Project The meat goat industry is a growing industry in Indiana and Kentucky. Neither Purdue nor the University of Kentucky has had a a herd of meat goats for extension education, or with which to conduct research. This project addresses both of these needs. The objectives of this project are to: 1) Make available a demonstration and education herd of meat goats for the educational benefits of meat goat producers and the industry. 2) Demonstrate how a small herd of meat goats can be adaptable to a small, part time agriculture enterprise. 3)Have available a herd of meat goats for workshops and educational events. 4) Have animals available for applied research with meat goats. 5) Develop cooperative educational efforts in meat goats between Purdue and Kentucky.
The project takes place at the Southern Indiana Purdue Agricultural Center, where the goats are taken care of daily by the SIPAC staff.
