• Benefits:

  • Reduce weekend farrowings
  • More uniform age of litters
  • Aids in facility management
  • Can attend more farrowings
  • Can enhance piglet fostering

• Limitations:

  • Must know breeding dates. Why?
  • Must have history of herd gestation length
  • Requires reasonably high management level

• Use:

  • Calculate expected farrowing date
  • Inject No more than 3 days (72 hours) prior to expected farrowing date.
  • Note: Directions for Estrumate and Lutalyse are different.

• Expect:

  • 90% of sows to farrow within 36 hours after treatment

• Caution:

  • Treatment of sows prior to 3 days before expected farrowing may result in weak or stillborn piglets. Pregnant persons should not handle this product.
